"I was raised by my grandmother (kokom). I was fortunate to gain and master the skills of beading by learning first hand experience at a very young age. The patterns I use are floral which was passed on from my grandmother. She used vibrant brightly coloured floral designs. I still continue and embrace my grandmother's unique signature style of beading. Today, I carry the teachings of my grandmother's. I continue to teach and schedule classes on beadwork. The students learn how to make moccasins, mitts and skirt making."

"Blackfish, orcas, killer whales. This design is acknowledging our finned relatives. They travel far, together, and are highly emotionally intelligent beings. Family is important to them, as they hunt together, sing to each other, and mourn for their loved ones. We find teachers everywhere. In our oceans, we find teachings of strength and reminders of our responsibility to walk softly and with respect. We see their values of family, persistence, and joy."

"This piece reflects my journey to becoming a professional Mi'kmaw quill artist. When I first learned to quill, I worked on small pieces to develop my skills and the connections required to be open to design inspiration. I completed this piece in 2019, the same year that I debuted as a professional, and I feel deeply connected to it because it reflects the transition from being an apprentice to a quill worker. I am very proud of this piece, and it continues to inspire me to create larger, more complex designs, as my grandmothers did before me."
