WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Senior Staff Accountant is a foundational role within the Finance department, responsible for overseeing various financial activities, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and contributing to financial reporting processes at Manitobah. The incumbent is an experienced accountant with a well-rounded background in full-cycle accounting, data analysis, reporting, and FP&A.

LOCATION

This position is hybrid/remote. The incumbent will be required to report to our Headquarters, located at The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba as directed.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Controller

Key Relationships: Finance team, internal and external stakeholders

Direct Reports: None

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Performing daily sales reconciliations with various systems to ensure proper recognition of revenue and collection of cash
  • Perform monthly closing activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and reports
  • Prepare variance analyses for select accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Analyzing management information requirements, including investigating discrepancies and providing analysis as requested
  • Constantly looking for improvements in current process, including controls and automation
  • Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Maintain detailed operating procedures on all tasks and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal quality controls.
  • Preparing and filing monthly tax returns for RST, GST/HST and USA State taxes in accordance with tax legislation
  • Preparing and maintaining fixed asset subledger; including additions, disposals, transfers, and amortization

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of direct accounting experience is required
  • Full-cycle accounting: 2 years (required)
  • Public accounting: 1 year (preferred)
  • Experience in budgeting or financial planning is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software, QuickBooks experience an asset

Educational Position Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required
  • CPA Accounting designation or progression towards same would be considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
